Sick and Tired or Tired of Being Sick?

Well, we haven't written in a little while because our WHOLE household has been sick the last week and a half. We've had the flu, sinus infections/colds and now Sammie has a remaining ear infection. We're FINALLY on the upswing and can start to function again but it pretty much wiped out a whole week for us. We couldn't function for church, missed a night of AWANA and basically every other activity normally occurring throughout the week trying to sleep, eat right and get back to normal.

We hope all of you out there have had better health and/or get better soon! There is a lot going around. Up here, it has hit quite a bit of the population. ...almost as irritating as the frigid cold weather. At least we don't have an overabundance of snow! :)

We'll try to get back to writing more as we add the activities back into our lives!

Have a great weekend!

A Fun Night!

Well, for those of you who missed it, the annual Valentine's Banquet has come and gone. It was a "Caribbean Sunset" with steel drum music, a Carribean Cooler (coconut milk, pineapple juice, lemonade and raspberry lemonade), crab cakes with salsa, coconut shrimp dipped in a pina colada sauce, jerk steak, ribs, tuna, fish, key lime pie, and much, much more!

If anyone went away hungry, it was their own fault! There was a feast for all of them! As wait staff, we were dressed in Hawaiian shirts, with khakis, sandles and flowers in our hair (guys had hats). I served drinks all night, water, coffee, etc. to almost 200 people. Steve worked in the kitchen as usual.

It was great having RBC up as our dish crew - they were kept busy and did a GREAT job.

We also saw many RBC folks - Bergmans, Dave & Gretchen Rich, Harv & Holly Rich, the Christensens, and others. Many people were also there from our area churches here and even folk just from the area who don't belong to a church.

Michael Lane gave a good message to round off the night.

Hopefully when things get calmed down a bit and we recover from the long weekend, I can catch Janet Merkel and get a few of the recipes to post...and find some pictures.

It's all about how you handle the gray!

The kids and I were riding to church today when we passed a whole row of election signs. Most are usually the traditional "patriotic" blue and white or red and white. Today we saw a yellow and red one, and then I passed a black and white one. Interesting choice of colors I got to thinking...wonder what the motivation was behind that? Visibility, uniqueness or something else?

It got me thinking though, how much of life or politics for that matter is ever black and white? It is all about how you handle the gray! I sure hope I am continuing to teach my children (and myself too) the proper Biblical principles to be able to handle the gray of life.

Proverbs 1:7 - "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline."

It's a heat wave!

Yeah! It's warm today - in fact I think we got up to 30 degrees! That's about 50 degrees warmer than a week or so ago! Needless to say, we've been busy and cold in the northwoods. Last weekend camp was pretty crowded with campers and Steve put in some long, exhausting days. The kids have been fighting colds - Sammie won, Kyle lost, but he's starting to feel a little better.

This weekend there are more campers, not as bad as last weekend but the kids are taking little break from camp. The kids went to the library today. Kyle of course only picked out train books and Sammie picked out a variety. Kyle desperately wants to learn to read (like big sister) so we started working on that today too. He also is having lots of fun in Cubbies learning his verses.

Next week this time, we will probably have a report from the Valentine's Banquet this Friday. It should be a fun night - Carribean theme.

We hope you are having a great day and enjoy the Superbowl tomorrow!
